Melvin Vilhelm Gilbert
Apr 9, 2018He was born Feb 28, 1925 in Riverton, to Albert and Johanna Sybrowsky Gilbert. He was fourth of fourteen children.Melvin grew up in Riverton, attended Jordan High School, served in the navy during World War II. He married Joan Blanche Oborn on June 16, 1948, in the Salt Lake Temple. Their 70 years together have been filled with much love, joy and sorrow. He was a loving father of nine children.He farmed in Riverton almost 50 years, raising hay, grains, potatoes, and cattle. He worked at the sugar factory for many years. In 1997, they moved to Lawrence to continue farming which he loved. He was always a hard worker, good friend and a GREAT father. One of his greatest joys was being with his family.Melvin is survived by his wife Joan; children Ken (Connie) of Huntington; Duane (Kolene) of Castle Dale; Jeanine (Tom) Heward of Bluffdale; Amy (Loren) Casterline of South Jordan; Janet (Scott) Olsen of Duchesne; and Paul (Sharmon) of Lawrence. 21 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by daughters Christina, Gloria, Lori; and grandson Stase.The family would like to thank those that assisted him: Sarahlee Kemple, Cherie White, Elva Christensen, Lana Hardaway, including VA, CNS Medical and 911 dispatched personnel.
